OurHome app alternative: it's gone, so move here

The chore list on the fridge says check OurHome, and OurHome won't open. Here is what is left of it, where each part goes, and the one part that doesn't come with you.

3 October 2026

The chore list on the fridge says “check OurHome” and OurHome won’t open.

Or it opens on one old phone and nowhere else, and the new tablet can’t download it at all. You go looking for an OurHome app alternative because the thing that ran the bins, the dishwasher and the Saturday shop has quietly stopped existing.

We checked what is actually left of it today, on its own website and in both app stores. Then here is where every part of it goes, and which part does not come with you.

A diagram mapping six jobs the OurHome app did to where each one lives in Chirpy. Chores with a name on them go to the Around the house list in Lists, with a person and a due date, free. Repeating jobs and reminders become a calendar entry with a repeat, free. The family calendar becomes Chirpy's one household calendar, free. The grocery list becomes the shopping list in Lists, which a meal plan can fill, free. What each child can see is set in the Family tool's members and roles, free. Points, allowance and rewards are marked not offered, because Chirpy has none of them. The totals read five of six free in Chirpy Basic, which covers up to six people with no card, and one not offered. A note at the top says that on 3 October 2026 the App Store and Google Play links on OurHome's own website both returned no listing.WHERE EACH PART OF OURHOME GOESOurHome’s App Store and Google Play links both returned no listing, checked 3 October 2026.WHAT OURHOME DIDWHERE IT LIVES IN CHIRPYCOSTChores with a name on themLists: Around the house, person + dateFreeRepeating jobs and remindersCalendar: an entry with a repeatFreeThe family calendarCalendar: one household calendarFreeThe grocery listLists: shopping, fed by the meal planFreeWhat each child can seeFamily: members and rolesFreePoints, allowance, rewardsNot offeredNot offered5 of 6 free on Chirpy Basic, up to six people, no cardThe five that move are the ones that hold a person, a date or a list. What happened to OurHome, checked today

OurHome’s own homepage still loads at ourhomeapp.com, and it still describes the app you remember: a gamified task system, a family calendar, a shared grocery list, adult approval on tasks and settings for what children can see. The page file was last changed on 23 July 2022.

The buttons on it lead nowhere. On 3 October 2026 the App Store link returned no listing in the US, UK or Australian store, and the Google Play link returned a not-found page. If it is not already on your phone, you cannot put it there.

So this is a move, not a comparison. The useful question is where each thing OurHome did for your house should live now, so the bins still go out on Thursday.

The OurHome app alternative that holds the same week

Here is the week OurHome used to run, done in Chirpy. Open the Around the house list, which every household starts with, and add “bins out”. Give it to Sam, set it for Thursday. Sam is told, the rest of the house is told, and you are not, because you already knew. When it is late it shows as late without anyone checking.

For the jobs that come back, put them on the shared calendar with a repeat: daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly. Fortnightly matters more than it sounds, because bed sheets and recycling are fortnightly and a weekly chart can’t hold them.

Then the grocery list. It sits in Lists beside the chores, and anyone in the house can add milk from their own phone while you are standing in the shop. All of that is on Chirpy Basic, which is free for the whole household, up to six people, with no card.

OurHome was a chore app with a calendar attached. What most families actually used it for was a week with names on it.

The part OurHome never did: the typing

OurHome asked you to set up a repeat with its own fields. That is fine for the first ten chores and it is why the eleventh never went in.

In Chirpy you type the sentence. Bins out fortnightly from Thursday becomes a fortnightly job on Thursdays. Dentist Tuesday half four becomes an appointment on the calendar everyone sees. You never open a repeat-rule dropdown, which matters because the jobs with odd frequencies are exactly the ones nobody sets up properly.

Plan three dinners and the ingredients land on the shopping list, so the Saturday shop is mostly written before anyone opens the fridge. That part is free. Turning a typed sentence into a dated, repeating entry is Chirpy Pro, $12.99 a month or $89 a year, and it covers the whole household rather than one person.

Rewards, approval, and who sees what

OurHome’s homepage leads with points: link a task to a weekly allowance, screen time or a family holiday. If that sticker-chart economy was the whole reason the app worked in your house, Chirpy does not have it, and there are no points or allowance anywhere in it. What Chirpy does instead is put the reward where the kids already look: the job with their name on it, the day it is due, and the whole family seeing it ticked off.

The other half of that section of OurHome, the permissions, does move. In Chirpy you invite a child with the child role and choose what they can see, and roles decide who can manage the household, so a nine-year-old can tick off their own jobs without being able to reorganise yours.

If chores are the whole problem in your house, we have written up the mechanics in full in family chore chart app, and compared the dedicated chore apps in best chore app for families.

What it costs, now that OurHome can’t be bought

There is no OurHome tier left to compare against, free or paid, because there is no listing to buy it from. So the honest comparison is between what you had and what each of our plans holds. Our prices are from our own pricing page on 3 October 2026.

Everything OurHome did that moves at all moves to the free plan. What the paid plans buy is the sentence: the chore you say once and never set up, the receipt that becomes a spend. That is a choice you can make in a month, once you know whether the family is opening it.

Moving the family over in one evening

Don’t hunt for an export. The chores you can name without looking are the ones that were actually happening, and the rest were already dead in the old app.

  1. Write five chores, each with one name. Bins, dishwasher, the cat, bathroom, school bags. One person per job, never “whoever”.
  2. Put the repeating ones on the calendar. Weekly bins, fortnightly sheets. Set it once and nobody resets a chart on Sunday.
  3. Add this week’s groceries. This is the one that gets everyone to open the app in the first week, because everybody wants something from the shop.
  4. Invite the other adult first, then the kids. The app that survives is the one the second adult opens unasked.

That last step is the whole of our guide on how to get family to use shared app, and if the grocery list is what keeps leaking, the fix is in shared shopping list family app.

If you were weighing FamilyWall too

FamilyWall comes up in every OurHome thread. Its free tier holds the calendar and lists, and its budget, meal planner and documents are Premium. We checked all of it on FamilyWall’s own pages in our familywall alternative comparison, so you can see both before you move anyone twice.

Common questions

What happened to the OurHome app?+
It can no longer be downloaded. On 3 October 2026 the App Store link on ourhomeapp.com returned no listing in the US, UK or Australian store, and its Google Play link returned a not-found page. The homepage was last changed on 23 July 2022.

Other developers now publish different apps under the OurHome name, so searching the store for it will not find the one you had.
What is the best OurHome app alternative?+
Chirpy, if your family used OurHome for chores with a name on them, a shared calendar and the grocery list. All three are on Chirpy Basic, free for up to six people with no card, and a meal plan that fills the shopping list comes with it.

Chirpy has no points or allowance. If the rewards were the whole reason, keep a sticker chart on the fridge beside it.
Is there a free app like OurHome?+
Yes. Chirpy Basic is free for up to six people with no card, and it holds the chores list, a person and a due date on every job, repeating calendar entries, the shared calendar and the shopping list.

Typing a sentence and having it become a repeating job is the paid part, on Chirpy Pro at $12.99 a month or $89 a year for the whole household.
How do I move my family's chores out of OurHome?+
From memory, not from an export. The jobs you can name without looking are the ones that were actually happening.

Each chore goes into Chirpy’s Around the house list with one name and a due date. Anything that comes back goes on the calendar with a repeat. Then add this week’s groceries, so everyone opens it before Saturday.
