Any.do family alternative: free for six, not four
The free plan is yours alone, so sharing starts at Family. Family stops at four. A household of five or six needs a plan that counts the whole house.
19 October 2026

You tried Any.do because the lists looked clean. Then you wanted the family on it, and found that the free plan is yours alone.
Sharing starts at the paid Family plan, and it stops at four people. If you are looking for an Any.do family alternative, this is what the plan really covers, what it costs, and what a household of six can do for nothing instead.
Everything below about Any.do comes from its own pricing page, its family page and its App Store listing, read on 19 October 2026.
Why look for an Any.do family alternative
Nobody leaves Any.do because the lists are bad. They leave over one of three things, and you can usually tell which from the first complaint.
The sharing is behind a paywall. The free Personal plan is a single-user plan. The shared family space, the shared grocery list and up to four shared projects are the Family plan’s selling points.
The headcount. Family is four members and the number is fixed. A couple with two children fits exactly. Add a grandparent or a third child and somebody is back on a list of their own.
It is a to-do app, and a house is more than to-dos. Bills repeat. Appointments have a time. Dinner turns into a shopping list. A task that disappears when ticked is a poor home for any of those.
A shared list is easy. The hard part is that the right person gets nudged on the right day.
An Any.do family alternative in one scene: Thursday’s jobs
It is Sunday night and the week has six jobs in it. In Chirpy you open Lists, tap the house list and type “Water the plants”. Put Leo’s name on it and Thursday as the day, and he is reminded a week out, the evening before and that morning. His phone buzzes, not yours.
The same job turns up on the household calendar on Thursday, beside the dentist and whatever else the week holds, so the person planning the week sees it without opening a list. Ask Chirpy “what is still open this week?” and it reads the house list back to you.

Nobody here pays, and everyone in the house is in. Chirpy Basic is free for the whole household, up to six people, with no card.
Any.do Family against Chirpy, priced like for like
Free sits against free, and the paid family plan against the paid plan. Any.do’s figures are from its pricing page and App Store listing on 19 October 2026, ours from our own pricing the same day.
| Plan | Price | Who is in |
|---|---|---|
| Any.do Personal | Free | One user. Tasks, reminders, calendar, planner |
| Chirpy Basic | Free | Up to six people, no card. Lists, calendar, meals, money and the rest of the household tools |
| Any.do Family | $8.33/mo yearly ($99.99), or $9.99/mo | Four members, fixed. Shared space, grocery list, 4 shared projects |
| Chirpy Pro | $12.99/mo or $89/yr | Up to ten people, with the assistant in every tool |
Free against free, one person against six. Top plan against top plan, Any.do Family is cheaper than Chirpy Pro, and it covers a task list and a grocery list. Chirpy Pro puts the calendar, meals, money, documents and the car in the same place, with room for ten, and the assistant doing the typing in each. That is what the difference buys.
One thing Any.do does that a Chirpy to-do does not: it repeats tasks, and its pricing page puts recurring tasks on Premium and Family. A Chirpy job is a one-off. The things that come round every month in a house, the bills and the renewals, repeat from Money and Car, and sit on the calendar every time.
The shopping list writes itself from dinner
Any.do’s Family plan includes a shared grocery list that groups items by aisle. It is a good list, and you type every line on it.
In Chirpy the list is the last step of a plan you already made. Pick the week’s dinners in Kitchen and the ingredients land on the shopping list, ready for whoever is at the shop. Our guide on how to turn meal plan into shopping list shows the cupboard check that stops you buying a third bag of rice.
What a to-do app cannot hold
A to-do is deleted when it is done. That suits the bins. It does not suit the electricity bill, the dentist or the car service, which need an amount, a time or a history and then come back.
That is the gap between a list app and a household app. Our guide to the best shared list apps covers the couple case, and the bill due date calendar guide shows how the bills get onto the same week as everything else.

How to move your family off Any.do in one evening
- Copy out the open jobs. Not the finished ones. Open jobs only, with who and when.
- Make one house list in Chirpy and put the open jobs in with a name and a day each.
- Invite everyone from Settings. All six can be in, on whichever phone they hold.
- Move the grocery list across and plan the next three dinners in Kitchen so the list builds itself.
- Leave Any.do alone until the billing date. There is no prize for deleting it tonight, and you cancel in the App Store or on its site.
If the family does not take to it, our guide on getting family to use the app is about exactly that week.
Which one is right for you
Stay on Any.do Family only if you are exactly four and the task list is everything you need. Move to Chirpy if you are five or six, if you would rather not pay to share a list, or if the bills, the dentist and dinner belong in the same week as the jobs. Chirpy Basic is free for the whole household, no card, so trying it costs an evening.
